THE One Night in Cape Town concerts – the official Cape Town leg for Oppikoppi headliners in August – features multi-platinum alternative rock band Kongos, rapper Yelawolf and metal outfit August Burns Red.

Now in its sixth year, the concert has proved so popular that it takes place in the Mother City over three nights with Kongos performing on Friday, August 5, at Hillcrest Quarry and Yelawolf on Monday, August 8, and August Burns Red on Wednesday, August 10, both at The Assembly.

Kongos features Kongos brothers Johnny (accordion, keyboards, and vocals), Jesse (drums, percussion, and vocals), Daniel (guitar, vocals) and Dylan (bass guitar, lap slide guitar, vocals). The US alternative rock band composes and record in Phoenix, Arizona, where they have lived since 1996. However, they have a strong South African connection having spent their childhood in London and South Africa where they attended Johannesburg’s Seheti School. They have an impressive following in this country with previous tours sold out in hours of being announced.

The band’s new album Egomaniac was released last month with its first single Take It from Me hitting the US charts. The band will be performing several songs from the new album, as well as select cuts from their previous release at the concert which will also feature local supporting acts.

Their previous album Lunatic(2012) included I’m only Joking and Come with Me Now with the latter reaching double platinum status in both America and Canada. Yelawolf is popular in the rap game. Throughout his 10-year career, the Gadsden, Alabama native has released two studio albums, six mixtapes and two EPs, and he has collaborated with Big K.R.I.T., DJ Paul, Rittz, Travis Barker, Eminem and Ed Sheeran. His latest album Love Story features the single, Till It’s Gone. It has become a smash hit that’s in line with the country’s recent obsession with the culture of rural American life. Till It’s Gone premiered on the popular drama Sons of Anarchy.

Since their formation in Pennsylvania in 2003, August Burns Red has evolved into a big deal in the modern metal scene. The band has spent years crafting a balance between a ferociously heavy sound with empowering lyrical content, while showcasing a rich surplus of inventive guitar riffs, blistering solos and dynamic drumming. With a solid collection of five previous albums, Thrill Seeker(2005), Messengers(2007), Constellations(2009) and Leveler(2011), the band’s latest release Rescue & Restore(2013) rocketed to the top of the Billboard charts - debuting at #9 on the Billboard Top 200.
