There was disorder in the National Assembly on Thursday night, first as EFF MPs tried unsuccessfully to raise “points of order” in the House, then as Congress of the People president Mosiuoa Lekota interrupted President Jacob Zuma shortly after he started delivering his State of the Nation Address.
Economic Freedom Fighters MPs sat down after Speaker Baleka Mbete told them they would be ordered out of the House if they don't allow Zuma to speak.
But, Lekota was later booted when he suggested Zuma should not be allowed to speak because: “He broke his oath of office. He is no longer honourable. He is no longer fit to lead...”
Lekota gave a fiery media interview shortly after he was asked to leave the parliamentary chamber by Mbete.
"He has broken his oath of office and he is not honourable anymore. South Africans must decide whether they want someone who has broken their oath of office to lead them. I can't sit inside there and listen to that. He must go!" he said.
Lekota was followed out of the House by other Cope members including Willie Madisha.
Zuma's speech has been peppered with disruptions from the EFF, DA and COPE.
