THE owner of the dog that mauled a two-year-old girl on Clifton beach last month has decided to have the animal “privately euthanased” rather than city officials having to put the dog down.
“I can state… that I am labouring under severe personal anguish. I understand the pain of the little girl, her family and everyone… involved,” James Lech said in an open letter last night.
The man who calls himself the “Dog Shaman” is under investigation by the city after his Rottweiler mauled Bridgetown toddler Meeka Riley Lackay, who had to undergo more than four hours of surgery after the attack.
The girl’s mother, Channell Riley Lackay, said yesterday: “Meeka is doing okay.”
Beverley Schafer, DA ward councillor for the Atlantic Seaboard, said the dog would be released today to a vet where it would be put down.

Put the human to sleep, after all it is there fault not the dog! Once again the animal needs to suffer due to the hands of humans

When are the relevant authorities going to deal appropriately with this con man? He is dangerous - to man and beast.

How can he still only be "under investigation"? Sad the dog must be put down - but rather that than the have the poor animal have to endure living with this fraudster.

Agreed. Of course, every dog has a personality and INSTINCT, and some may be more aggressive than others. The owner should KNOW the personaility of own pet, and should be aware his dog is aggressive. Why was the dog out in the open without a leash? putting the dog down is not the answer here... serving the owner with assault with grievious bodily harm using a weapon is more appropriate.

How did this huge fearful animal got hold of the child...was the dog not supposed to be on a leash under full controlcommand of it's master?

I am so sad for the poor dog. It is not his fault. I feel the owner should be put down instead....How unfortunate that due an owners inability to be responsible, his loving dog needs to be put dowm. What a shame.. I am ver very sad for the dog.
