IF we change the way we eat, we change the planet. To find out more see the illuminating documentary Hope for All, which reveals the effects of Western dietary habits on our health, environment and on livestock. The film screens at The Masque Theatre today at 6pm and at The Labia on Sunday at 2pm.

Half of the population in Western society suffers from being overweight. Cardio-vascular diseases, diabetes and cancer are epidemic. Our meat consumption has quintupled over the past 50 years. Sixty five billion land animals are being slaughtered every year for food consumption. One third of the global grain production is fed to animals for fattening, while 1.8 billion people world wide suffer from hunger and starvation. Can there really be a solution to all these problems?

Hope for All is part of the SA Eco Film Festival – “This is pre it’s global release. Engaging and motivating, it’s fascinating how many of the films this year point out how much of a difference an individual’s lifestyle choices can make. Just the smallest change can mean a whole lot of impact.

How to Change the World screens at the Masque tonight at 8pm and Labia tomorrow at 4pm and Sunday at 6.15pm. This thrilling, sometimes terrifying film chronicles the adventures of an eclectic group of young pioneers – Canadian hippie journalists, photographers, musicians, scientists, and draft dodgers – who set out to stop Richard Nixon’s atomic bomb tests in Alaska, and ended up creating the worldwide green movement. Other previews include True Cost, 11am today and The Anthropologist at 2pm at Simons Town Library.
