A SALDANHA 12-year-old with a passion for charity work has been crowned Little Miss Globe 2016 in Turkey.

Originally from Witbank, Chante Green, also known as the West Coast Butterfly, started modelling last year and, because she is passionate about helping others, also began doing charity work in the Western Cape.

After her return from Turkey yesterday, her father, Garry Green, said: “Put a child or an animal around Chante and she lights up.”

Green described his daughter as an extrovert with much love to give.

“Chante lives by the motto: if you give, forget and if you receive, remember.

“Another motto that Chante lives by is: Be the change you want to see in the world,” he said.

Chante has helped out at Aids centres, children’s homes, animal shelters and the Red Cross Children’s Hospital. With the help of her parents, she started her own project, Chante’s Helping Hands, where she helped poor people with food, clothing and blankets.

On his daughter’s trip to Turkey, Green said: “Oh, she had a ball; both she and her mother were over the moon.”

She amazed him as she was a first-time entrant and had won the Little Miss Globe competition, he said.

Chante said she loved her crown and sash, and would wear them whenever she did charity work.

“I love to see people smiling and to take away their sadness, that is why I do charity, and I will never stop,” the Grade 6 pupil said.
