More jazz festival acts announced

MORE Cape Town International Jazz Festival acts were announced at the Cape Town International Convention Centre yesterday.

The UK’s Shakatak and Level 42, as well as Kirk Whalum of the US, were in the line-up. The Berkeley College of Music from the US makes a return to the festival with pianist and vocalist Lalah Hathaway also set to perform.

SA guitarist Jimmy Dludlu will perform along with Alvin Dyers, Richard Ceasar and Saudiq Khan while hip hop-rap artists A.K.A and Da.L.E.S will also play. Local band Mi Casa will return this year. Billy Domingo, chief operations officer of organisers espAFRIKA, said that “89 000 people came last year and I have never seen people dance like I saw people dance to Mi Casa”.

Abdullah Ibrahim and the ensemble Ekaya will be among South African artists at the festival while

Mozambique’s Frank Paco is also on the list.

The festival is held on the weekend of March 28-29.
