SPRING is in the air at the Alliance Francaise du Cap at 155 Loop Street. Robert Nzaou’s exhibition of photographs, Obsession, is intended as a celebration of the beauty and strength of natural beauty. “A woman and her hair, an intricate love and hate relationship, black, white, yellow, pink... all women have dislikes and preferences when it comes to their hair, those with curly hair want straight hair, dark/red hair wants blond hair, the list goes on.”

Nzaou, is a Congolese photographer. He left Congo Brazzaville in 2001 as a refugee and after living and studying in South Africa, returned to Congo and his family for the first time in late 2010.What he found was a country and city filled with vibrancy, colour and a unique and beautiful perspective on life. He decided to document some of the aspects of daily life which struck him in powerful ways and so a variety of projects were born. Free entry. Obsession is showing at the Alliance Francaise du Cap from today until September 30.

In order to achieve a quality service for their Cinémalliance screenings the venue has decided to set up a new schedule for film screenings. From September, a screening will be organised once every two weeks, with the aim of refining the choice of film.

On Tuesday at 6.30pm Camille Redouble screens. It’s directed by Noémie Lvovsky with Noémie Lvovsky, Florence Seyvos, Pierre-Oivier Mattei and Maud Ameline. Here, Camille was only 16 and still in high school when she fell in love with Eric, another student. They later married and were happy for a while. But now 25 years have passed and Eric leaves her for a younger woman. Bitter, Camille drinks so much liquor that she falls into a coma and she finds herself... propelled into her own past. Camille is 16 again when she wakes up that morning, her parents are not dead anymore and she must go to school, where she will meet her schoolmates and, of course, Eric. Is she going to fall for him again, and be miserable 25 years later?

Film duration is 115 minutes. A French speaking movie with English subtitles. It’s a free screening.

On September 21 at 6.30 La Pli I Donn Cirquons Flex is a circus from Reunion island. In creole, ‘La pli i donn’ is an expression which means ‘it’s pouring with rain’. La Pli I Donn builds on the experience and encounters brought about during Cirquons Flex’s travels in India, Madagascar and South Africa these past two years.

This project attempts to open up a dialogue that is endemic to Reunion Island, by developing an intercultural exchange around the diversities of the Indian Ocean region. The show brings together four acrobats from Reunion Island, Madagascar and South Africa – territories which are close geographically yet each rich in their own influences and characteristics.
