GAUTENG Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi yesterday warned teachers against having romantic relationships with pupils.

He said a picture showing a teacher kissing a pupil has been doing the rounds and has come to the attention of his department.

“The pupil is disputing the picture and so is the teacher. It’s clear that as a department we are compelled to act. The matter will be attended to and the picture will be examined to determine if whether it is in fact real or if it has been altered,” Lesufi said.

When asked about the water crisis at Ormonde Primary School, the MEC said he was worried about the issue and was working tirelessly to deal with the matter.

“We made a commitment to deal with the matter and the change of government made it difficult.

“I apologise to pupils and the parents at the school,” said Lesufi.

“We share their frustration and pain. I don’t want to subject any school to this.

“And I’m worried about Ormonde and other schools where we need local government to help us.” – ANA
