A Delft mother of two, Busiswa Centane, was shot dead at her home. Her partner, a policeman, was arrested after the shooting yesterday.
Centane’s neighbour Nceba Qwaya said he heard about five gunshots after the policeman got out of his car and went into his house.
“I was on my way to work when I passed his speeding car. Soon after that, I heard about four or five gunshots,” Qwaya said.
Centane had two children and worked at Home Affairs in Cape Town, her brother, Zithobile Centane said.
“There are no words to describe how we feel at the moment. We never anticipated this would happened to her. The pain we are going through is unbearable,” he said.
Police spokesman Tembinkosi Kinana said: “We can confirm the incident whereby a police officer is alleged to have shot and killed his partner.
“The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and for this reason we’re unable to provide further details.”
In a separate incident, a man was shot outside a supermarket in Mfuleni.
A witness said the man was allegedly involved in an argument with a security guard.
The wounded man was recovering at Tygerberg Hospital.
