Prominent City attorney Noorudien Hassan was murdered when gunmen opened fire on him in Lansdowne on Monday night.
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said the incident happened at about 10pm in Burwood Road.
No one has been arrested yet.
Hassan has handled a number of high profile cases including representing Irshaad Laher, linked to the sale of thousands of firearms stolen by corrupt police colonel Christiaan Prinsloo, who admitted in court he had sold the weapons to gangs in Cape Town.
