The man convicted of killing honeymoon tourist Anni Dewani has been admitted to hospital.

Western Cape Department of Correctional Services spokesman Simphiwe Xako said Xolile Mngeni had been admitted to the Groote Schuur hospital, but was unable to comment on his condition.

However, Eyewitness News reported that Mngeni was in a critical condition after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011.

The Western Cape High Court jailed Mngeni for life in 2012 for killing Dewani.
