Durban - Two armed men assaulted a restaurant manager and robbed employees of their belongings at a Hillcrest eatery on Thursday night.

The incident happened at the Mugg & Bean restaurant in Josiah Gumede (Old Main) Road just before it closed.

A restaurant manager said he was not allowed to speak to the press. Famous Brands, the company that owns Mugg & Bean, could not be reached for comment.

Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said the incident happened at about 9pm.

“The restaurant employees were accosted by two armed unknown men who robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash and their belongings at gunpoint.

“The manager was assaulted, allegedly by the suspects, and was taken to hospital.

“No shots were fired during the incident. Hillcrest police are investigating a case of business robbery and no arrests have been made at this stage,” Zwane said.
