by Mary Ingouville Burton (Jacana)

This is the story of an organisation of mostly white, middle-class women who became known for their silent public protests, wearing a black sash, against the injustices of apartheid.

This book is written by a woman who was herself a national president of the Black Sash and, later, a Truth and Reconciliation commissioner.

Behind Closed Doors

by Elizabeth Haynes (Sphere)

Ten years earlier, 14-year-old Scarlett Rainsford vanished during a holiday in Greece. Investigator Louisa Smith has always regretted not being able to solve the mystery and return Scarlett to her family.

Then Scarlett is discovered back in her home town after all this time – and Louisa is determined to find out what happened to the young woman and why she remained hidden for 10 years – was she abducted or did she run away?

As investigators look deeper into the case, more questions arise than answers.

But as they edge closer to the answers, what they learn is more sinister than they ever imagined.
