Many people will remember 1-11-2011 as the day after the UN told the world that the global population had reached seven billion.
For some of the parents of the 11 babies born at Parklands Hospital on Tuesday, the date was given extra numerical significance.
But, while some astrologers have been going gagga over the date, the first-time parents of some of the babies attach no religious or auspicious significance to the date.
They just think it is an awesome birth date for their bouncing bundles of joy.
For Jayshree and Horan Subbaye, of Parlock, the birth of their son, Ammav, on this day was just a coincidence.
Ammav – which in Sanskrit means strength of the ocean – was the 11th baby born at 8.40pm.
Kerry and Michael Forbes, of Musgrave became first-time parents to 3.9kg Samuel Nathan at 5.58pm
Michael said Samuel meant God’s promise, and they thought his birth date was “super cool”.
Prinola and Ian Govender, of Newlands West, became proud parents to Prian – a combination of both their names – at 8.50am.
“We did not attach any religious significance to the date. We chose November 1 because it symbolised a new and fresh start. He is our gift from God.”
The date 1-11-2011 is considered auspicious by some Hindu astrologers, who predicted those born or married on this day, would be blessed with a life of wealth and happiness and success.
Verulam-based, India-born Vedic astrologer, Ramamoorthi Sarma, said those born on 1-11-2011 were born under a bright star.
He said on this day the sun was aligned with Pluto and this symbolised a great victory, according to the Hindu almanac.
“Those born under this star will enjoy a very positive life and will be blessed with good health, wealth and many successes.”
He said the number one in Vedic astrology represented success.
“This combination of numbers generates positive energy and paves the way for a successful life. It is a number one combination!” Sarma said.
But, Durban-based astrologer Dion van Zyl had a different view. He agreed there were some positive associations with the date, but he also cautioned that those born on this day could endure sibling rivalry and bickering in the future.
“The world is in turmoil at the moment. There’s a lot of lies and deceit. People need to be cautious.
“We could also see more youngsters grow up like Lady Gaga…”
