DURBAN -One person was killed and five others injured after two vehicles crashed head on in a collision on the M35 after Philani Mall south of Durban on Wednesday morning.

Rescue Care Paramedics said they responded to the crash and arrived on the scene to find that the two vehicles had collided and come to rest on the side of the road.

"One person, a male, believed to be in his thirties had suffered serious injuries and had unfortunately passed away before Paramedics had arrived," Ceron Lennox, Rescue Care Operations Manager said.

"He was declared deceased on the scene. A further five people had sustained various injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various hospitals for their injuries and for the further care that they required," she said.

Traffic in the area was backed up while authorities tried to clear the road.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash.
