Durban — The sassy KZN South Coast fashion designer Makhosi Ntshangase is headed to Seychelles to showcase her clothing line.
Ntshangase is not afraid to stand out and be seen. She is also not afraid of taking risks and grabbing every opportunity.
She opened her business in 2020 and has achieved a lot of success, and her clothing is being sold at Edgars stores.
Ntshangase said through hard work and passion she had been spotted among other designers.
“I had been showcasing at the Durban Fashion Fair, where an Edgars buyer spotted my work and was in love with my work aesthetic. I got a call from them a few days after the show and I took it seriously and the rest is history,” she said.
She said that after her Edgars collection did exceptionally well in Sandton, Edgars offered to give her company a platform at its branches across the country, from Edgars in Durban’s Gateway Mall, Edgars in Durban’s Pavilion Mall to its stores in Johannesburg’s Mall of Africa, Pretoria’s Menlyn Maine Mall, and Cape Town’s Canal Walk shopping centre.
“This is a new contract with Edgars and the rollout will happen gradually within the different months. Gateway and Pavilion in Durban were the first stores to have the Sistas Felas collection on sale. In September we added Menlyn Maine and Mall of Africa, both in the Gauteng province, and lastly, in October we will have our collection in Sandton Mall as well as in Canal Walk. Basically, we will be in all the different provinces by the end of this year,” she said.
Ntshangase said she has seen strong growth in her business. She said the first Edgars store to offer her line had been a stepping stone to her success, as they had put in a lot of hard work there, thus seeing strong growth and Edgars offering them platforms at its different branches.
“We have not only seen the growth of the business but also doors opening for employment and empowering the youth, who are passionate about the fashion industry,” said Ntshangase.
She said winning a rising star award had resulted in Sistas Felas becoming a popular line, and gave the company the opportunity to work with those behind the telenovela Uzalo, Durban Tourism and many other organisations.
“This didn’t only put me on the fashion map but fuelled and encouraged me to achieve greater heights and aim for the sky.
“It has also proven that indeed hard work does pay off. Durban Fashion Fair has contributed extensively to my fashion journey and to where I am. Winning the rising star award has been a great blessing to Sistas Felas,” she said.
Ntshangase, who has a strong work ethic, plans to expand her company selling her clothing at other retail stores.
“Our eye is on YDE. We are targeting different stores like YDE and the likes of Zara. We are also hoping to have a store and more international platforms,” she said.
