LOCAL comedian Trevor Noah, who has also found stardom in the US, will host the MTV Africa Music Awards (Mamas) next month.
The Daily Show host took to his Twitter account this morning to make the announcement.
He tweeted: “Guess who's hosting the @MTVbaseAfrica #MTVMAMA2016 See you 22 October in my hometown Johannesburg!”
The post was accompanied by a corresponding caption of the MAMA poster which displays a silhouette of Noah against the backdrop of the Joburg CBD with the words: “Can you guess the host?”
On their official Twitter account, the MAMA’s responded to Noah’s tweet and posted: “ ?@Trevornoah its gonna be so lit! Thank you Trevor! #MTVMAMAHost.”
The awards, an annual celebration of African and international talent and achievement, will be held in Joburg this year after they took place in Durban for the past two years.

During these ceremonies, it was hosted by American actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, and the year before that fellow US comedian Marlon Wayans.
This year’s ceremony will be headlined by Babes Wodumo alongside rapper Nasty C and Nigerian afropop singer Yemi Alade.
Fans have flocked to social media to express their excitement at the event as well as the announcement that Noah will be the host.

Nominations for the MAMA’s are expected to be announced today.
It will be broadcast live on MTV Base (DStv channel 322) and MTV (DStv channel 130) on October 22 at 9pm CAT.
