LAST seen on local stages in the Kings and Queens of Comedy showcase about a month ago, Chris Forrest now brings his new show to town.

Whose Your Daddy? sees Forrest navigate issues around fatherhood and parenting, promising a host of laughs along the way.

Now two years a dad, he’s ready to talk: “I have one child, who has just turned 2, and the show is all about going through the pregnancy and the first few months of her life.”

Described as “a clueless Dad’s guide to fatherhood”, the show is set to provide some light on certain matters: “I still feel like I’m a clueless dad two years later. It’s almost like when women are like 10 years old, someone takes them aside and advises them on all those things men don’t know about – like how to drive men insane!

“And then I think they are given subconscious lessons on raising a child… they know everything! I just felt like I knew absolutely nothing about how to raise a child.

“So it was a massive learning curve for me. And pretty much over a year, I found out so much that I would not have learnt before.”

Being a dad also brings a lot of change to one’s life. “I used look down on friends who would say things like: ‘No, I can’t, because of the kids’ or ‘When you have one you’ll understand’ and I’d be like – whatever! Now I find myself saying those exact words!”

Some of his most memorable fatherhood experiences so far include seeing the “positive” sign on their pregnancy test and his daughter’s first word. “It was not ‘Mommy’ or ‘Daddy’. It was ‘nanna’ – short for ‘banana’. While she loves the fruit, it was actually the Minions’ Banana Song from the movie Despicable Me that prompted it.”

Directed by Bevan Cullinan, Who’s Your Daddy? tours the country for the first time since debuting at the National Arts Festival last year.

It starts in Durban before heading to Joburg, back to the festival and then elsewhere in the country.

• Show runs from April 7 to 12 at The Seabrookes Theatre, Durban. Tickets are R100 through Computicket.
