The local branch of the Active Citizens Movement, which has organised Sunday's memorial service for anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, sought an urgent interdict at the Durban High Court this afternoon, to stop the ANC Youth League from disrupting the service.

The movement sought to prevent youth league members being within 200m of the the service, to be held at Sastri College in Greyville. It further sought to prevent them disrupting proceedings by shouting, hurling abuse, "capsizing" furniture or intimidating or harassing people attending the service.

Former finance minister Pravin Gordhan and Albertina Luthuli are expected to speak and a large crowd is expected to attend.

Judge Rashid Vahed postponed the ruling until tomorrow (Saturday) morning when final affidavits are to be submitted.

Adv Kessie Naidu and his son Vishalin, and Viren Singh Attorneys represented the Active Citizens Movement.

The ANCYL's legal expert, Adv Siseko Madikiza, said the application would be opposed and said the allegations that there would be disruptions was not substantiated.

The case will be heard tomorrow morning.
