Cape Town -In a bid to reduce the number of children who go missing at Cape Town’s beaches and swimming pools, the metro police are planning to introduce a system to reunite lost children with their parents.
Metro police chief Wayne le Roux said this festive season officers would hand bracelets to children, bearing their names and parents’ phone numbers, in a joint venture between the metro police and social development mayoral committee member Suzette Little.
“The worst thing you can see is a child who is lost and traumatised. And there are a large number of children who go missing, especially on the critical days,” said Le Roux.
Le Roux was referring to busy days like Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
“There are thousands of people at the busy beaches and swimming pools. Our staff can sometimes be trying to find parents for a couple of hours,” said Le Roux. - Cape Argus
