Cocktail: Old Fashioned

Ingredients: Jim Beam Bourbon, bitters and orange zest

I always recommend a switch from clear spirits to malts and bourbon for the winter.

Top notch CBD bar Tjing Tjing has taken their bourbon mix a step further with a singing orange zest.

Barman Patrick Oliver prepares the Old Fashioned by placing the bourbon in a tumbler and adding a dash of Gomme syrup, a bit of ice to thin the mix, and stirring. Now comes the fun part. In front of me, he lights an orange peel. The zest of the peel is rubbed into the glass.

The citrus flavours were well released. There is a good dose of bourbon in here. As I sip from the tumbler, the orange scent surrounds my nose. It’s a drink well worth polishing off.

Tjing Tjing was listed in fourth place in Condé Nast Traveller’s 10 Hottest New Bars Around The World. It is a rooftop and attic bar located at the top level of the Dear Me restaurant.

It has a very red theme and is made even cosier by fireplaces. The space has a log cabin look and offers a view of the inner city skyline from the outside terrace. You can smoke there. WiFi is available and free.

Tjing Tjing is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 4pm to 2am, and on Saturdays from 6.30pm to 2am. – Weekend Argus
