Panel selects top 10 cabernets

Cabernet sauvignon is the second most widely planted cultivar in SA and continues to be a firm favourite with many winelovers.

Wine fundi Christian Eedes organised the inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon Report in partnership with Sanlam Private Investments.

The judging panel scrutinised 60 cabs, which were rated and given tasting notes.

Fourteen wines made it to the second round, from which the Top Ten for 2012 were chosen.

They are:

Rated five stars, all 2009 vintage:

Delaire Reserve

De Trafford

Graham Beck

The Coffeestone

Tokara, all 2009 vintage, and all of which were rated five stars.

Four and half stars, all 2009

Cederberg Five Generations

Rickety Bridge Paulina’s reserve

Stark-Condé

Stark-Condé Three Pines, all 2009 vintage

Four stars

Kleine Zalze Family Reserve 2007
