Cape Town - ’Tis the season for shiraz. The organisers of the fourth annual Shiraz Showcase will do their best to counter the Cape’s stormy weather with a warming presentation of this popular cultivar.

Winemakers from several regions will set up in The Vineyard hotel in Newlands to pour, chat and compare new, current and past vintages of their best shiraz.

Waverley Hills, La Motte, Kleine Zalze, Eagles’ Nest, Ernie Els, Zandvliet, Fairview and De Grendel are among the producers taking part, with many of these having achieved high ratings for their shiraz or syrah, both single vineyard and Rhone-style blends.

Edmund Terblanche, the chairman of Shiraz SA, points to the increasing demand for these wines locally and internationally, with the vines now occupying 10 percent of our vineyard area.

Given our diversity of styles, it is not difficult to find a shiraz to please every palate.

Wine Concepts will operate a shop-at-show facility, offering free deliveries across the Cape Peninsula and the Night Owls are on call to drive visitors home after the event. Or, take advantage of the Vineyard Hotel’s package deal for dinner, bed and breakfast.

The show takes place on Tuesday, August 7, from 5.30 to 8.30pm. Tickets, which cost R100, include a tasting glass, catalogue and snacks.
