Studies show that we choose food that is nutritionally worse when we eat out.
This is because we decide spontaneously, says Deborah Cohen, a US scientist who studies how environments influence behaviour.
“People take less than a second to choose from a menu - and when we make decisions quickly, we’re more likely to choose ‘survival’ foods that are high in fat and sugar.”
