Studies show that we choose food that is nutritionally worse when we eat out.
This is because we decide spontaneously, says Deborah Cohen, a US scientist who studies how environments influence behaviour.
“People take less than a second to choose from a menu - and when we make decisions quickly, we’re more likely to choose ‘survival’ foods that are high in fat and sugar.”
TIP: “Check the menu online before so you can plan,” advises Dr Ian Campbell, of the charity Weight Concern. “And allow 20 minutes between courses. You might find that by then just a black coffee will do rather than dessert.” - Daily Mail
