Food Network, the 24/7 food entertainment channel on DStv, has signed chef Jenny Morris to develop and host its first commissioned show in South Africa.

Also known as The Giggling Gourmet, Morris has operated a cooking school in Cape Town for the past 14 years, as well as presenting cooking shows on radio and TV.

Her third cookbook, Cooking with Jenny Morris, is due out later this year.

“We’re really looking forward to developing a great show with her that will inspire foodies and non-foodies alike,” said Nick Thorogood, managing director at Food Network Europe, Middle East and Africa. – Staff Reporter

A Food Network National Potjie Challenge will be staged at Sun City Cabanas on August 27, with six teams competing for a gold, silver and bronze potjie trophy.

The channel recently announced that it was promoting and hosting an annual National Potjie Day on that Saturday. It is asking potjie lovers throughout South Africa to organise their own competitions and to post images or video footage of these events to www.facebook.com/FoodNetworkSouthAfrica

The six teams competing at Sun City are the winners of a potjie competition held last month in Fourways, Joburg, at which more than R176 000 was raised for charity.

Three executive chefs from Sun City will judge the challenge: Nicholas Froneman of The Palace, Phineas Lepuru of Sun City Hotel and Andrew Robertson of the Cabanas.

Food Network says Jenny Morris will be the MC at the challenge. – The Star
