Cape Town - While McDonald’s celebrated their 20th anniversay amid much fanfare on Wednesday, one customer was not happy.

A Mitchell’s Plain woman says she nearly vomited when she tucked into her Grand Chicken Ranch burger, only to find it “green with mould”.

The 24-year-old, who asked not to be identified, says she bought the burger at McDonalds at the Promenade Mall on Tuesday afternoon and only realised the bun was mif after taking two bites from it.

She rushed back to the shop for an explanation but got the cold shoulder.

“I went through the drive-through at around 3.15pm, bought a Grand Chicken Ranch, small nuggets and small chips and I went home,” she said.

“After I took two bites I noticed green dots on the burger and turned it around and found mould all over the bun.

“So I went back and as soon as the staff saw me coming in with the burger they called the manager who took the stuff from me, came back and gave me my money. No explanation, no nothing. I would have liked an apology from her, they sold me old food and it’s not alright that they had such a relaxed attitude about it, I’m angry.”

The woman says she posted the incident on the franchise’s Facebook page but had no response.

The Daily Voice called McDonald’s Promenade branch where the manager on duty, who identified himself only as Hameez, said he could not comment because someone else was on duty on Tuesday.

He tried to phone the manager who was on duty but said she did not answer her cellphone.

“I can’t comment, I need to investigate first,” he added.

McDonald’s head office in Johannesburg did not answer their phone, and emails went unanswered.

* On Tuesday, the international fast food giant celebrated 20 years of happy meals in South Africa by going back to the old price for the Big Mac meal.

Customers began queuing at stores early but many left disappointed after they were told the R20 special had run out.

The hashtag #FillUpMacDonalds started trending on social media, with people posting selfies while standing in the line.
