Fifty shades of blueComment on this story
London - Goodbye 2012, hello 2013. With the New Year comes a new set of interior colours predicted to be big news. According to Dulux, the colour hitting the headlines will be indigo — and, as if to prove it, there is already a flurry of blue products online and all over the High Street.
“We’re living in turbulent times, and this is having an effect on the colours we want to wrap ourselves and our homes in,” says Louise Smith, senior global colour designer at Dulux.
“Blue has the reputation of being cold, but if you select the correct shade for your room, it can create some of the most inspiring interior schemes. Indigo has a purplish edge, which gives it a smooth and relaxing feel.”
From key pieces, such as a contemporary two-tone pod sofa at Sofas & Stuff, or Sanderson’s Mandarin flowers duvet set, to smaller accessories, indigo — and blue in general — makes a striking statement colour. You can paint a feature wall or a whole room, or simply add a few carefully chosen textiles.
We love the rounded vase by Surrey-based ceramicist Lucy Burley, who says she’s always been a fan of the colour blue.
“When I was a child, my parents took me to Scotland and bought me a lapis pendant, which I chose because of the powerful shade of blue,” she says. “I’ve loved all shades of indigo ever since.”
