London - Daily yoga can help ease menopausal symptoms, according to a new study.
Researchers divided a group of women in two: half of them did yoga every day for three months, while the other half did no exercise at all.
On the first day of the trial, the symptoms in both groups were the same, but by the end of the trial, the yoga group had fewer symptoms, including fewer urogenital complaints such as incontinence. There was no change in the control group.
It is estimated that eight out of ten women in the UK experience symptoms leading up to the menopause, including hot flushes, night sweats and sleep disturbance.
The researchers say yoga should be considered as a viable treatment option. One theory is that it lowers stress hormones such as cortisol, high levels of which are known to worsen menopausal symptoms. - Daily Mail
