London - Her appearance has barely changed since she played Rachel in Friends - the hit comedy that ended more than a decade ago.

But Jennifer Aniston has revealed the price she has to pay for staying in shape is getting up at 4.30am, exercising twice a day and taking collagen supplements.

The 47-year-old actress, who has maintained the slim figure of her 20s, described her workout regime as “pretty intense”.

She also aims to fit in 20 minutes of meditation in the morning before making a protein shake with bananas, blueberries, frozen cherries, sugar substitute stevia, a vegetable mix, maca powder and cacao.

But the most important ingredient is collagen peptide, a supplement thought to strengthen the elasticity and regeneration of the skin, hair and bones.

A personal trainer helps with her first workout of the day, which lasts over an hour, and she then goes to the gym.

“If I’m working, I’m up at 4.30, 5am. If not, between 8 and 9am, because I’m a late-night person,” she told fitness magazine Well and Good.

“But usually when I wake up, I’ll make my standard cup of hot water with a slice of lemon in there.

“Then I’ll go do a workout of some sort. I have a trainer, a wonderful woman who I do this spin-yoga class [with]. We spin for half an hour, and then do yoga for 40 minutes. That’s pretty intense.

“Then I go to a gym, where I do strength training or just my own thing on the treadmill, the bike, or the elliptical, just to change things up.” Miss Aniston said she does sprint training while listening to music as a distraction.

“Keeping your body confused is always the key for me,” she added. The actress recently attributed her youthfulness to laughing with her husband, 44-year-old actor and screenwriter Justin Theroux, whom she married eight months ago.

And it seems her glowing complexion is not the result of expensive skincare products. She said: ‘My whole face regime is just soap and water to wake myself up, then some sort of [US brand] Aveeno daily moisturiser that’s got SPF in it.

“It’s quick. I never linger too long anywhere, to be honest. Things need to be as easy as possible.

“And when I’m on a movie I don’t have time to be leisurely, so then my whole routine gets sped up.”

She will next appear as one of the main characters in Mother’s Day, a comedy directed by Garry Marshall, and is set to play the mother of a young soldier in war drama The Yellow Birds.
