Emma Watson provoked howls of outrage and accusations of hypocrisy with her latest photo shoot in which she posed almost topless.

Now the actress has hit back, saying: ‘I really don’t know what my t**s have to do with it.’

Miss Watson, 26, who campaigns for women’s rights as a UN ambassador, said she was confused by the online backlash after she was photographed braless for this month’s Vanity Fair. As part of the shoot, right, she bared her cleavage with a crochet shrug over her shoulders to cover her breasts.

The post uploaded by Vanity Fair on Instagram was captioned: “Maturing from Hermione to Belle in @beautyandthebeast is a true coming-of-age story for @EmmaWatson: "I couldn't care less if I won an Oscar or not if the movie didn’t say something that I felt was important for people to hear." Her critics included broadcaster and columnist Julia Hartley-Brewer, who wrote on Twitter: ‘Feminism, feminism... gender wage gap... why oh why am I not taken seriously... feminism... oh, and here are my t**s!’

Miss Watson, who stars as Belle in the new Disney remake of Beauty And The Beast, responded to the attacks in an interview with co-star Dan Stevens. ‘Feminism is about giving women choice,’ she told the BBC. ‘Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women. It’s about freedom.’ Asked by Stevens why she was being criticized, the former Harry Potter star added: ‘They were saying that I couldn’t be a feminist and have boobs.’
