London - He is known for his distinctive dress sense, but it seems Keith Richards can’t take all the credit for the look.

The Rolling Stones star, 72, has revealed the majority of his clothes are borrowed from the women in his life.

He claims he still swaps outfits with his daughters and that he also turns to his wife Patti Hansen, 60, when in need of new attire.

The star bemoaned the fact that his clothing collection was raided for the band’s first ever major exhibition which opened last week at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea, south-west London.

“All I know is that I’ve been stripped of half my wardrobe,” Richards told Time Out. “I still wear these damn things. They’re not history to me – they’re my clothes. I’ll find some more. I’ll tap up my old lady. That’s where most of my clothes come from.”

Asked if they have always exchanged outfits, the father-of-five said: “Anita [Pallenberg, his ex-partner] and I used to swap clothes. Patti and I have always swapped clothes. Even my daughters and I swap clothes.

“Not so much nowadays – now they just take them.”

He added: “Mick [Jagger] and I have never swapped clothes much… [but] when we all had a load of similar jackets made up… it didn’t matter whose was whose.”
