If Julius Malema’s political career is indeed on the rocks, he could consider an alternative life in the fashion world.
It seems that the purple suit he wore to a Mauritius wedding has set off an unprecedented demand in Durban, where suit salesmen are scrambling to meet the demand .
“Purple suits are flying off the shelves,” said Mohamad Motala, sales director of Ellesse Clothing and Iceman.
“We have seen a strong rise in demand for purple suits since Malema wore one at the wedding, mostly at the high-end stores and local boutiques.”
Malema wore the suit to the multi-million rand wedding of Limpopo-based property developer David Mabilu, 42, who booked out the entire Long Beach resort in Mauritius for his dream wedding to Phala Mokgophi, 38.
Commenting that it took “a lot of guts” to wear the colour, Motala commended Malema’s for being fashion forward: “You can’t get more fashionable than that.”
He did suggest, however, that Malema should have chosen black or brown shoes, instead of going purple from head to toe. - Sunday Tribune
