38 killed in Iraq day violence - report

Baghdad - Bombs, mortar rounds and rocket attacks killed 38 people and wounded 110 as Iraqis voted Sunday in an election Al-Qaeda threatened to sabotage, the interior ministry said.

Thirty people were killed in mortar and rocket attacks in and near Baghdad while bombs killed another eight people, ministry officials said.

In the bloodiest incident, 25 people died when a Katyusha rocket flattened a residential building in the north of the capital.

A total of 110 people were injured in the attacks which came despite 200,000 police and soldiers deployed in Baghdad and hundreds of thousands more across the country. - Sapa-AFP
