London - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's ruling Labour Party has narrowed the opposition Conservatives' poll lead, according to a survey on Tuesday that reversed recent Labour falls.

The Populus poll in the Times newspaper put Labour up two percentage points on 30 percent, with the Conservatives unchanged from last month on 42 percent.

Brown, who must hold an election by mid-2010, received a modest boost from his visit to Washington for talks with US President Barack Obama last week, the poll suggested.

A quarter of those questioned said the US trip made them feel more positive towards Brown, 13 percent were less positive and nearly two-thirds (63 percent) said it made no difference.

More than half (56 percent) said they had "a little confidence" that the G20 summit of world leaders in London next month will help Britain to cope with the recession, while 64 percent thought it would assist the global recovery.
