New York - One of former President George W Bush's twin daughters says she supports gay marriage.

The national gay rights group Human Rights Campaign has released a video featuring 29-year old Barbara Bush.

Barbara Bush calls herself “a New Yorker for marriage equality” and says people should be able to marry the person they love.

The former president opposed gay marriage and endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw it.

Gay rights advocates believe New York lawmakers may vote to legalise gay marriage this year. Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared his support for gay marriage, and advocates believe they have enough votes in the legislature to pass it this year.
