London -

Honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani was kicked out of The Priory after threatening to punch a female nurse and barricading himself in his room, a court heard on Thursday.

Dewani, 31, complained that he would be better off in prison and regularly screamed at staff and fellow inpatients at the psychiatric facility in Bristol, it was said.

The details emerged as Dewani attended Westminster magistrates Court for a bail hearing. The care home owner denies ordering the killing of Anni Dewani, 28, on their honeymoon in South Africa last year.

After the hearing, Dewani had to be helped by family members as he left the court and once outside collapsed into the road before being driven away.

Dewani was arrested on Monday for a technical breach of bail following his violent outbursts at the Priory.

District Judge Howard Riddle granted bail on condition Dewani remains either at Kew-stoke Hospital in Somerset, where he is awaiting psychiatric assessment, or the medium-security Fromeside hospital in Bristol.

Judge Riddle said he was concerned placing Dewani in custody would delay his treatment and affect his health. - Daily Mail
