Japan has thanked Rescue South Africa for its support after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami which devastated the country, a spokesman said on Thursday.

Japan's State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Chiaki Takahashi expressed the country's deep gratitude to South Africa's ambassador Gert Grobler at an African Diplomatic Corps meeting on Wednesday, said Samantha Botsis.

Takashi told Grobler the gesture was generous and much appreciated.

“Your team executed the work in a highly professional way and the Japanese authorities as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were deeply grateful for the valued support,” Takahashi said.

Botsis said it was evident that the team's help in Japan had and would continue to enhance relations between South Africa and Japan. -
