The wife of ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is to receive cardiac catheterisation after suffering a suspected heart attack following a detention order, the hospital chief said.

Suzanne Mubarak “is still in the intensive care unit and will remain there for 48 hours,” Mohammed Fathallah, the head of Sharm el-Sheikh hospital, where she is being treated, told the official MENA news agency.

“The cardiac catheterisation will take place either (Sunday) or (Monday),” he said.

The 70-year-old former first lady had been placed in intensive care on Friday after state television reported she suffered a heart attack when she was remanded in custody in a corruption probe.

The Illicit Gains Authority had ordered Suzanne Mubarak's detention for 15 days on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth and preparations have been underway to move her from the hospital to the Qanater women's prison outside Cairo.

The authority also remanded former president Mubarak in custody for a further 15 days on Friday, after three hours of interrogation.

He has also been questioned by the state prosecutor on several other charges, including ordering the shooting of anti-regime protesters. Mubarak was first detained on April 13 and his detention has been repeatedly extended. - Sapa-AFP
