London - About 250 patients were moved to safety after a fire broke out in a London hospital Wednesday in which no-one was injured, a spokesperson for the Northwick Park Hospital said.
The blaze started in the basement of the hospital in Harrow, north-west London, but was brought under control by more than 40 firefighters after two hours, the fire brigade said.
Patients were brought out on stretchers and in wheelchairs and two departments had been closed to new admissions so that staff could attend to the patients who had to be moved, a spokesperson said.
A statement from the hospital said fire crews were called after smoke was detected through the alarm system. An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way. - Sapa-dpa
