Quake hits southern Spain

Madrid - A magnitude 6.2 quake hit southern Spain on Monday about 24 kilometres to the south-east of the city of Granada, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties on Spanish media from the quake, which Spain's National Geographic Institute said had a magnitude of 4.8.

The quake occurred at 00:08 am (2208 GMT Sunday) at a depth of 616 kilometres near the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the USGS said. - Sapa-AFP
