Seoul - A South Korean news agency says a man has been convicted of raping his wife in a landmark case for the Asian nation.
The Yonhap news agency claims that the Busan District Court handed the 42-year-old man a suspended 30-month sentence for raping his 25-year-old wife at knife-point.
It is the first time a man in traditionally male-dominated South Korea has been convicted of marital rape.
The verdict criticised the defendant for failing to show his wife affection. Yonhap says she is a native of the Philippines who married the man in 2006.
The court suspended the sentence after the defendant expressed remorse. - Sapa-AP
