WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange appeared in court in London on Monday in a case over his extradition demanded by Sweden on sex allegations.

The 39-year-old Australian, dressed in his trademark grey hooded duffle coat, waved to supporters as he arrived at Belmarsh Magistrates Court in south London.

His lawyers have vowed to fight the extradition request on legal, technical and human rights grounds, they said on Monday.

Assange was arrested in London on December 7, on the basis of a European Arrest Warrant issued by Sweden.

He spent nine days in jail in London before being released on bail on strict conditions. -
