Kia's new exec sedan is called Quoris

It's not going to be a dog's life for kia's new rear-wheel drive flagship sedan.

It might me named 'K9' in its home market of South Korea, but Kia is thankfully giving it another name - Quoris - for export markets.

The Kia Quoris is an all-new rear-wheel drive executive sedan designed to cause some sleepless nights in Germany.

This name was derived from the English words 'core' and 'quality'.

The big sedan, which is about the size of a standard-wheelbase BMW 7 Series, goes on sale in overseas markets in the last quarter of this year but last we heard there was no certainty about it coming to South Africa although Kia SA is "considering it."

The Quoris will be available with a raft of advanced driver assistance technologies, including radar-based Advanced Smart Cruise Control, AVSM (which detects the risk of a collision), Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assistance and Around View Monitor.

The initial engine offering is a 213kW 3.8-litre V6 linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. This will be joined next year by a direct injection engine of the same capacity and with a little luck they may see some sense in installing a V8 and a nice range of turbodiesels at some stage.
