New York Auto Show - The Toyota Camry has been reworked for 2015 and to ensure that nobody accuses it of not making a loud styling statement - it comes with a really big mouth.

According to Toyota the new sedan is aimed at those that love the durability and value that Camry traditionally represents, but who seek a little more in the way of style and performance.

On the outside, it marks an almost complete redesign of the model that was unveiled back in 2011 - only the roof panel is unchanged. Although the rear and side views remain fairly conservative, the front end has a far more aggressive appearance - dominated by a large air inlet that appears to have been inspired by the Lexus spindle grille.

On the inside, Toyota has gone classy (or classier at least) with upgraded materials and fabrics - including detailed stitching and trim elements finished in satin chrome. A quieter experience is ensured by improved seals and 30 percent more insulating material. Please don't fall asleep.

As for the chassis, a retuned suspension system is said to take the Camry's handling "to a whole new level of responsiveness."

The engine line-up soldiers on as before, offering consumers a choice between a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and 3.5-litre V6 - both mated to a six-speed autobox - and a hybrid that mates a 2.5-litre Atkinson Cycle engine with an electric motor and CVT transmission.

For those looking to take their Camry experience to new levels of excitement, Toyota offers an XSE model with 18-inch alloys, a sportier suspension set-up and plenty of unique design touches.

Although the Camry has been absent from South Africa for more almost a decade now, there have been a few rumours and rumblings, in recent years, of it returning. Nothing's confirmed yet though.
