Those wanting an estate car with some SUV flavour now have a mid-sized option within the Volvo stable.

Volvo's V60 sports wagon has just been given the Cross Country treatment. The new model, which makes its debut at the LA motor show this week, slots neatly between the V40 and V70 Cross Country models and serves as a more low-slung and 'car-like' alternative to the XC60.

Unlike the XC60, which was designed from the ground up as an SUV, the V60 Cross Country is a more rugged version of the V60 wagon. Its ground clearance has been raised by 65mm (to 189mm) and it's fitted with a range of new 18” and 19” alloy wheels with high profile tyres.

To give it a more rugged presence, the V60 Cross Country also comes with bumper extenders, front and rear skid plates and side scuff plates. Interior ambience is taken care of by sports seats in black leather, with brown stitching.

Volvo's new angry wagon will hit South African shores during the second half of 2015, offering a choice between two all-wheel drive versions: the 130kW D4 turbodiesel and 187kW T5 turbopetrol. Pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.
