The wife of Chrysler South Africa and Fiat South Africa joint chief executive officer Trent Barcroft was still in shock after the two were shot at and robbed on Tuesday in Midrand.
Company spokesman Richard Sloman said on Wednesday: “She was unharmed in the robbery, but she is still very shocked by the shooting.”
Trent and Cathy Barcroft, who are American citizens, were robbed of their cellphones, jewellery, and handbag at about 2.45pm in Waterfall Park, and Barcroft was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to the Sunninghill hospital, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
“He is progressing well, and is expected to make a full recovery.”
United States embassy spokesman Jack Hilmer said they were aware of the shooting, but were not authorised to comment because Trent is a private citizen.
Barcroft was managing director of Chrysler SA for three years before being appointed joint CEO for Chrysler and Fiat in South Africa in July 2012. He has a long association with the South African market dating back to 1999 when he developed and installed the dealer network and went on to manage the Chrysler Division between 2000 and 2005 under the former DaimlerChrysler organisation.
A management division at the company was currently in charge of the day-to-day running of Chrysler and Fiat in South Africa until Trent recovered, Sloman said. - Sapa
