Pretoria - Pule Phafane has spoken out about a road-rage ordeal during which his car was shot at multiple times in Moreleta Park on Monday morning.

The father of two told the Pretoria News he was forced to leave his vehicle and flee after another motorist pulled out a firearm and aimed it in his direction.

Phafane said he was returning home after dropping off his children at school during morning rush-hour traffic when the incident occurred at the intersection of Garsfontein and Primula streets.

“I was driving into the driveway of my house, which is situated next to the intersection,” Phafane said. “The guy behind me became angry because he thought I was cutting the line. He chased me down and rammed into my car.

“He came out with a gun, and I got out of the car and ran away. While running, I heard shots being fired. I thought he was shooting at me, but he was shooting at my car.”

ARRESTED

He said the man smashed his vehicle’s windows.

“He broke my windows and swore at me. He called me a monkey and got into his car and tried to drive off. But other motorists saw what happened and tried to stop him.”

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Dave Miller could not confirm the events leading up to the shooting, but said the suspect was arrested and released on bail.

“He is facing charges of contravening a number of Firearms Control Act provisions; for pointing a firearm and discharging it in public and malicious damage to property,” Miller said.
