That really is the only way to introduce a car built to commemorate more than 50 years of Aston Martin's association with the world’s most unsecret secret agent.

Based on the recently launched DB9 GT, just 150 examples of the Bond Edition will be made, to celebrate the release of the 24th James Bond film, Spectre.

They'll have all the special kit of the GT, including the special 10-spoked, gloss black alloy rim, bright aluminium bonnet vents, side strakes and grille, grey brake callipers, and carbon-fibre front splitter and diffuser.

The Bond Edition specials will be finished in a special silver paint that echoes the finish on the original DB5 driven by Sean Connery in the earliest bond episodes, with sterling silver Aston Martin badges front and rear, and discreet "007 Bond Edition" badges.

GETAWAY POWER

Inside, each will have serial-numbered sill plates embossed with the 007 pistol logo (Take a moment to think how much extra the seventh one off the line is going to be worth…) gun-barrel embroidery on the rear seat divider, and a special Bond Edition start-up screen on the infotainment display.

The six-litre V12 is rated for 402kW at 6750 revs and 620Nm at 5500, laid down through a rear-mounted six-speed shift-by-wire transmission. Getaway time to 100km/h is quoted at 4.5 seconds and top speed at 293km/h.

Available to order today, sir, from only £165 000 (about R3.4 million) ex works.
