Volvo teaser previews new '40' family

Volvo has released this teaser picture of a new concept car that it plans to reveal next Wednesday, May 18, and it looks decidedly production-ready.

As it goes with these previews, Volvo is saying nothing about the car for now, besides the caption "not your daddy's Volvo" that accompanied the image on Snapchat, and making it obvious that Volvo's new contender is targeting the youth market.

It's been widely reported that the new concept previews Volvo's forthcoming '40' series, which will be built on Volvo's new Compact Modular platform.

Judging by the pudgy stature of the concept’s front end, it's likely to be previewing Volvo's first XC40 crossover rather than a new V40. The current V40 has just been facelifted so it's unlikely that Volvo will be showing off its replacement just yet, but a new version of the hatch-wagon will inevitably follow the XC40 to market in good time.

Volvo is also rumoured to be bringing back the S40 sedan, which will naturally also be built on the new compact platform.
