The Classic Regularity Rally Association of SA, in association with the Lions International, has decided to reintroduce the blind navigators' rallies that were run in South Africa from 1971-2002.

Total has agreed to once again sponsor the series.

The rallies will be part of the association's annual Bearing Man Regularity Series and will consist of six events - of which five will count towards declaring an overall winner at the end of the season.

Lions International took on the revival of the rallies as a 2006 project. The organisation started them in South Africa during the 1960's and SA is the only country in the world where such rallies are officially recognised as motorsport activities.

The first event of the 2006 season was the Jaguar Classic Rally on January 22. Members of Lions International provided the drivers and cars.

Andries van der Walt, motorsport manager for Total SA, said that the company was very happy to be involved again. - Sapa
